🗺️ Day 1: The Rocky Plateau (Ha Giang City to Dong Van)

- Distance: ~150 km

- Highlights: Heaven's Gate, Tham Ma Pass, Hmong King's Palace, Dong Van Old Quarter

Your journey begins after a comprehensive safety briefing at the Motorventures base camp (Make sure to check our Pick-Up and Drop-Off Guide for the Ha Giang Loop to see how to arrive easily from Hanoi).

Once we hit the road, we climb the Bac Sum Slope to reach Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate, admiring the Twin Mountains (Fairy Bosom). After lunch in Yen Minh, the landscape gets dramatic. We conquer the 9-loop Tham Ma Slope and drive through the rocky plateau to visit the Hmong King’s Palace (Vuong Mansion).

We end our day arriving in Dong Van Ancient Town. You will check into a comfortable hotel, enjoy a warming Hotpot dinner, and have time to explore the Old Quarter's nightlife.

🏔️ Day 2: The Epicenter of the Frontier (Dong Van to Du Gia Village)

- Distance: ~100 km

- Highlights: Ma Pi Leng Pass, Nho Que River Boat Trip, M-Road, Du Gia Homestay

Day 2 is the most visually staggering day of the entire loop. Right after breakfast, we hit the crown jewel of Vietnam: The Ma Pi Leng Pass. Prepare for breathtaking, high-altitude views before we trek down to the emerald Nho Que River for a 1-hour boat cruise through the towering Tu San Canyon.

After lunch, we leave the main highway and take the scenic "M-Road" through the mountains. This less-crowded route offers sweeping views of rural rice terraces. (Note: Please read our guide on Responsible Ha Giang Travel: Why you shouldn't give money to children as we pass through these remote areas).

We arrive in Du Gia Village, home to the Tay ethnic people. Here, we check into a traditional stilt house homestay. You will share a massive "Family Dinner" and toast with local corn wine. If you are doing [Solo Travel on the Ha Giang Loop: Tips & Experiences], this dinner is the absolute best place to make new friends.

🌄 Day 3: Waterfalls & Valleys (Du Gia to Ha Giang City)

- Distance: ~100 km

- Highlights: Du Gia Waterfall, Duong Thuong Valley, Lung Tam Linen Village

We start the final day with a refreshing morning swim at Du Gia Waterfall. Plunging into this natural pool of crystal-clear water is the perfect wake-up call before hitting the road.

We begin our journey back to Ha Giang via the Duong Thuong Valley and Thai An. The road winds through lush green mountains and scenic rivers, offering a softer landscape than the harsh rocks of Dong Van. Time permitting, we may stop at Lung Tam Village to see how local women weave traditional hemp fabric.

We cruise back into Ha Giang City by late afternoon, giving you plenty of time to shower, rest, and catch a comfortable sleeper bus back to the capital.
